Guyana Association of Women Police Church Service, parade to observe 6th Anniversary

The Guyana Association of Women Police on Friday morning held a grand parade to mark the 6th anniversary of its founding.
The parade commenced at the National Park on Carifesta Avenue and traversed on to Young Street, Kingston, where Police Commissioner Leslie James, flanked by his deputies, took the salute.
The parade proceeded to the Officers Mess Annexe, where the annual Church Service was held under the theme “Women Embracing Positive Change in Law Enforcement”.
The parade saw the attendance of hundreds of persons, including senior and junior officers of the Guyana Police Force, along with a delegation from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, led by Assistant Commissioner Patsy Joseph.
Smartly dressed to celebrate their place in the Guyana Police Force, the women turned out in their numbers; and the contingent of five platoons comprised female ranks from the Guyana Association of Women Police, the Special Constabulary, Felix Austin Police College, Police Divisions A to G[LM1], and the foreign delegates who had come to celebrate this milestone with their Guyanese counterparts.
The celebration continued with the women inviting God into their presence with a heart-warming opening prayer by Woman Inspector Marcia Sealey;, and the programme got underway with a pleasant welcome by Woman Superintendent Charmine Stuart, who paid homage to the women who had laid the foundation for the Association to be formulated and to those exceptional women who had broke through the glass ceiling with their outstanding achievements in the Guyana Police Force.
Minister within the Natural Resources Ministry, Simona Broomes; Deputy Commissioner Maxine Graham DSM; President of the Association; and other ranks of the Guyana Police Force, along with the foreign delegates and their leader, Assistant Commissioner Patsy Joseph, were all among the packed audience of this humble ceremony.
Scriptures taken from Luke Chapter 1, verses 35 to 38 and 39 to 45 were read by Woman Inspector Shevon Jupiter and Woman Constable 25056 Mars respectively, followed by hymns and instrumentals by the women of the Police band.
Woman Sergeant 19980 Michelle Calder delivered a very powerful and inspirational message, which captivated the minds of many. The motivational preacher urged the women Police to stand up and be counted, and also to stay strong and be a guiding light for not only Police women, but for all women.
The programme concluded with a closing prayer, followed by recital of the National Anthem.
