Guyana bowl out Barbados for 38 but lose to Windwards

In the second day of the Cricket West Indies (CWI)/Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association’s Regional Female Under-19 T20 competition, Guyana defeated Barbados by 79 runs but lost to the Windward Islands by 65 runs.
Windward Islands took first strike and scored 165-1 in their 20 overs. Jephiana Joseph blasted 64, while Qiana Joseph, a Windies Women’s selectee, scored 49. In reply, Guyana were restricted to 100-7 in 20 overs, with vice-captain Mandy Mangru top-scoring with 25, and captain Shabika Gajnabi scoring 21.
In the disciplined performance registered by the Windward Islands team, Alison Antione took 2-17 while Xharia Jack took 2-14.

The second match, which was Guyana’s fourth-round encounter, saw the Guyana team outplaying Barbados in all aspects of the game. Batting first, Guyana scored 117-7 in 20 overs, solid performances coming from opening batter Mandy Mangru, who struck a composed 54 from 71 balls in 92 minutes, which included three fours.
Casey Charles, with 12, and Afruica Gentle, with 10, were the only other Guyanese players to reach double-figures.
Barbados’s best bowler was Aaliyah Alleyne, who had played in the senior tournament. She snared 1-12 in her four overs of right-arm medium pace bowling.
In reply, Barbados were blown away for 38, with no batter reaching double-figures. Extras contributed 14 runs to the wounded Bajans’ score.
Bowling for the Guyanese, Ashmini Munisar had 3-11 in three overs, while skipper Shabika Gajanbi had 3-13 in 3.2 overs. Mandy Mangru, who earlier top-scored with a half-century, returned with the ball to grab 2-8 in four outstanding overs.
