Guyana close Commonwealth Games campaign with relay season’s best

Guyana brought its 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign to an end on Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland, with the men’s 4×100 metres relay team recording a season’s-best time and Stafon Roach placing 10th in the men’s triple jump final.
The relay quartet of Akeem Stewart, Jackson Clarke, Noelex Holder and Shamar Horatio clocked 39.96 seconds to finish fifth in Heat One but did not advance to the final.
Stewart ran the opening leg before handing over to Clarke, while Holder handled the third leg and Horatio anchored the Guyanese team to the finish.
Nigeria won the heat in 38.46 seconds, ahead of Canada, which finished in 38.53, and Australia in 38.69. The three teams secured automatic qualification, while fourth-placed Kenya advanced as a non-automatic qualifier after posting 39.66 seconds.

Guyana finished ahead of Togo, which also recorded a season’s-best time of 41.95 seconds. Papua New Guinea did not finish the race.
Meanwhile, Roach ended the men’s triple jump final in 10th position after producing a best effort of 15.64 metres during the opening round.
The Guyanese followed that performance with jumps of 15.61 and 15.58 metres but did not progress beyond the first three rounds of competition.
Jamaica’s Jordan Scott won the gold medal with a leap of 16.72 metres, while India’s Praveen Chithravel secured silver with 16.58. Selva Prabhu Thirumaran, also of India, earned bronze with an effort of 16.52 metres.
Roach’s appearance in the final and the relay team’s season’s-best performance completed Guyana’s participation at the Games.
