Association do Shotokan Karate as they have returned from the 12th International Karate Diagaku (IKD) Caribbean Karate Championships. The championships were held in Jamaica from July 19 to 23 with Guyana’s medal haul totaling 40 inclusive of 14 gold, 18 silver and 8 bronze medals.
The Guyana Karate College were also in attendance as they made a hat trick with 3 bronze medals taking the overall tally to 43 for team Guyana.
Leah Shariff who competed in the 17 to 19 years category was the most outstanding Guyanese in capturing four gold medals and one bronze.
Trinidad and Tobago won the championship while Barbados finished in second place. Seven countries participated in the annual event.
Minister Henry congratulated the squad on their outstanding performance at her Main street, Georgetown where the happy squad paid a courtesy call.
