Guyana heighten preparations as tournament draws near

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) will come alive with excitement this weekend as Guyana will be looking to take home court advantage when they take on the rest of the Caribbean in the Antilles U-18 3×3 basketball Championships.
As the tip-off for the competition looms closer and closer, the eight-member Guyanese male and female teams have stepped up their preparations, getting an early feel of the indoor CASH facility as they worked on fitness and tactical plays.
The regional tournament, which targets Under-18 players, will bounce off today as over 65 participants flow into Guyana to vie for the top honours against the hosts, Guyana.
A workshop will mark the beginning of the tournament and will be conducted by International Basketball Federation (IBF/FIBA) officials, while the intense competitive play runs from 14:00h on October 20 to 21.
Aside from the brewing rivalry in the 3×3 segment, players will also compete in three points shootout, skills challenge and a slam dunk contest.
Meanwhile, the shortlisted players for Guyana are: Males – Akeem Crandon, Andrew Johnson, Nigel Bowen and Shamar France with Mark Agard as Head Coach. On the other hand, the female squad will feature Saffiya Greene, Lydia Roberts, and Roschelle Campbell with Troy Greene as Manager.
The U-18 Antilles 3×3 Basketball Final is being organised by the IBF and the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF). Admission to the highly anticipated event will remain free for both days.
The participating countries include: Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Dominica, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Lucia and hosts Guyana for the men, while the female category comprises Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Martinique and hosts Guyana.
