Guyana hosts historic Caribbean archery championships

Guyana is hosting the eighth Caribbean Developmental Championships (CDC) and the inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, bringing together nearly 300 athletes and officials from 13 nations for four days of competition from October 22–25.
The championships officially opened on Thursday evening, marking an important milestone for archery in the Caribbean and providing regional athletes with an opportunity to compete and share experiences across the recurve, compound and barebow categories.
Target rounds are scheduled to begin on Friday and continue through Sunday evening.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr speaking at the opening ceremony

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr welcomed the visiting delegations and reaffirmed the Government of Guyana’s commitment to developing archery and creating opportunities for local athletes to excel internationally.
“It is our privilege to host you here in Guyana in this historic event,” Ramson said, emphasising the sport’s growing importance in the country’s sporting development.
He also assured World Archery Americas of Guyana’s willingness to host future regional tournaments, declaring that the country remained committed to supporting the discipline.
“Just know that Guyana is a friend to archery, and we are going to continue to invest and support the development of our athletes,” the Minister said.
Ramson expressed confidence in the potential of the athletes participating in the championships, suggesting that future international and Olympic medal-winners could emerge from among those competing in Providence.

He noted that the competition provides athletes with valuable opportunities to gain experience, build relationships and learn from archers across the region.
Font Milian wished the participants a successful competition and an enjoyable stay in Guyana, while looking ahead to the next edition of the championships in Panama.
