Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships…
Guyana men’s team consisting of Shemar Britton, Nigel Bryan and Kyle Edghill avenged a loss from two years ago against St. Lucia with a 3-0 drubbing on Sunday to progress to the semi-finals of the Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in the Dominican Republic.
Today the youthful team will clash with the top seeded home team and progression would mean they are bound to receive a medal at championships which consists of players with greater experience than the Guyanese contingent.
In the St. Lucia match, Bryan defeated Adrian Albert 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 12-14, 11-6); Britton had the same scorline against Omarie Ferdinand winning 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8. While Edghill disposed of Daniel Andrews 3-0 (12-10, 11-6, 13-11).
In the opening rounds, the trio of Britton, Bryan and Elishaba Johnson defeated number four seeded Barbados men’s team 3-0. Britton won 3-0 against Marcus Smith; Bryan 3-2 against Tyresse Knight and Johnson won 3-2 against Daughtry Kristen.
The team which is being coached by the experienced Linden Johnson will be action from 09:30 hrs today.
The other teams participating in the championships are: Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Curacao.
