Guyana named one of Wanderlust’s standout destinations for 2026

In the midst of more than 700 global submissions, Guyana has been recognised as one of Wanderlust’s standout destinations for 2026, a year the country is set to showcase its rich culture, heritage, and meaningful travel experiences.
Wanderlust, a leading UK-based independent travel media brand established in 1993, is known for inspiring serious travellers to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations through authentic experiences, stunning photography, and a focus on responsible travel.
The publication, which uses the tagline “taking the road less travelled”, is the UK’s oldest and largest travel magazine, offering expert advice, trip planning tips, and unique stories on culture, wildlife, and sustainable adventures. It also hosts travel awards and events.
Its 2026 “The Good to Go List” represents the most exciting and meaningful moments that travel can offer curious and responsible wanderlust travellers. Each destination was selected by the magazine’s editors not only for its incredible experiences but also for the unique stories unfolding there in 2026 – from milestone anniversaries to ground-breaking cultural events.
The list highlights destinations that allow travellers to engage with places in ways that celebrate heritage, support local communities, and bring their stories to life.
This recognition comes at a pivotal time as Guyana marks 60 years of independence, as the Ministry of Tourism highlighted the achievement on its social media platforms, stating:
“The spotlight turns to what makes the country truly special: community-led tourism, restored heritage, and a deep respect for nature. Guyana continues to prove that progress doesn’t have to come at the expense of identity.”
The ministry further added, “We’re proud to announce that Guyana has been selected from more than 700 global submissions as one of Wanderlust’s standout destinations for 2026, a year set to be rich in culture, heritage and meaningful travel.”
The recognition is a reminder that thoughtful travel allows visitors not only to experience a destination’s beauty and culture but also to contribute to its growth and resilience.
