Guyana procures US$4M in heavy-duty drainage pumps from India

Mobile and fixed heavy-duty drainage pumps which were procured under a Line of Credit financing of US$4 million from India are being installed at several locations around the country.

Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, H E Dr K J Srinivasa, on Wednesday visited the wards of Ruimveldt and Sussex Street, Albuoystown in Georgetown and Nootenzuil and Hope on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) to have a first-hand look at the installation and commissioning of the pumps.
The pumps are being installed by a technical team from India. The mobile pumps were installed at Ruimveldt and Sussex Street, Georgetown, while fixed pumps are being commissioned at Nootenzuil and Hope, ECD.
High Commissioner Srinivasa had also visited two other pump stations – at Devonshire Castle and Hampton Court on the Essequibo Coast on 18th November, where installation of two fixed pumps is being carried out at each station.
This work is progressing as per plan, and is expected to be completed by first week of December 2020.
The Government of India arranged procurement and installation of nine fixed and three mobile high-capacity irrigation pumps for agricultural purposes and for mitigation of flooding in Georgetown and its environs.
The contract for the work was awarded to M.S Apollo International Limited of Gurgaon, India, which has been working with the National Drainage & Irrigation Authority (NDIA) of Guyana.
Supervision for installation and commissioning of all the 12 pumps will be carried out by the Indian company in the next two months.
