Guyana records 22 new COVID infections

The Health Ministry on Monday released new COVID-19 statistics via its dashboard, showing an increase of 22 new positive cases.
Confirmed cases have reached 65,294 – 30,026 males and 35,268 females. The death toll remains at 1238.
There are two persons in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 in institutional isolation, 881 in home isolation and two in institutional quarantine. To date, 63,143 persons have recovered.
Meanwhile, 637,032 coronavirus tests have been processed since the virus was detected here back in March 2020.
However, the latest vaccination statistics for adults reflect 442,395 first doses or 86.2 per cent. Second doses are at 342,021 doses or 66.7 per cent. For the 12 to 17 category, 34,726 first doses or 46.7 per cent have been administered along with 25,451 second doses or 34.9 per cent.
Booster doses have been made available for the adolescent age group as of last week, as well as second booster doses for the adult population. Persons are encouraged to take these shots before their immunity weans.
Persons with comorbidities have been continuously asked to continue taking their respective medications or treatment to control their condition. The preventative measures and guidelines to protect against the virus must be adhered to since this category of person is at greater risk if they contract COVID-19.

Global figures show that almost 530 million people have tested positive for the virus and 6.2 million have died. In the Americas, more than 157 million confirmed cases have been reported with over 2.7 million deaths.
