The Health Ministry on Sunday reported that 48 new COVID-19 cases have been reported, taking the total cases in the country up to 64,276.
According to new statistics released by the Ministry, 29,576 males and 34,700 females are now infected with the virus. The death toll has remained at 1231 – the latest increase reported on Friday after two women succumbed.
There are two persons in the Intensive Care Unit, 21 in institutional isolation, 566 in home isolation and five in institutional quarantine. To date, 62,456 persons have recovered.
Meanwhile, 620,143 coronavirus tests have been processed since the virus was detected here back in March 2020.
An analysis shows new cases dispersed among six administrative regions, with four in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); two in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara); 32 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); seven in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne); one in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and two in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). The other regions did not report any increases in positives.
In Guyana, most recent vaccination figures indicate that over 441,000 first doses and 340,500 second doses were distributed to adults. This is approximately 86 per cent and 66.4 per cent, respectively. For children aged 12 to 17, more than 25,000 or 34.7 per cent are completely vaccinated. Booster coverage have surpassed 63,000. These numbers have been stagnant within the past weeks, as authorities urge Guyanese to get boosted.
