The Health Ministry on Thursday released new COVID-19 statistics via its dashboard, showing an increase of 57 positive cases.
Thus far, confirmed cases have reached 64,492 – 29,657 males and 34,657 females. The death toll remains at 1232.
Statistics showed that three persons are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 18 in institutional isolation, 587 in home isolation and one in institutional quarantine. To date, 62,652 infected persons have recovered.
Some 625,327 coronavirus tests have been processed since the virus was detected here back in March 2020.
An analysis shows the new cases are dispersed across seven administrative regions, with four in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); three in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara); 39 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); one in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice); seven in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne); one in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and two in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The other regions did not report any increases in positive cases.
In Guyana, the most recent vaccination figures indicate that over 441,000 first doses and 340,500 second doses were distributed to adults. This is approximately 86 per cent and 66.4 per cent respectively. For children aged 12 to 17, more than 25,000, or 34.7 per cent, are completely vaccinated. Booster coverage have surpassed 63,000. These numbers have been stagnant within the past few weeks, and authorities are urging Guyanese to get booster shots.
Persons with co-morbidities have been continuously asked to continue taking their respective medications or treatment to control their condition. The preventative measures and guidelines to protect against the virus must be adhered to since this category of persons is at greater risk if they contract COVID-19.

Global figures show that almost 521.6 million people have tested positive for the virus and 6.2 million have died. In the Americas, more than 155.4 million confirmed cases have been reported with in excess of 2.7 million deaths.
