Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony shared that they are considering the possibility of opening another section of the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara to monitor maternity patients.

Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony

“We’re looking at opening another section of the Ocean View facility so that we can move, in the future, maternity cases. As it is right now, we don’t have that capability at Ocean View, but we’re working to put that in place. We also would have built up the laboratory and diagnostic capacity at Ocean View, so that has been an ongoing effort,” he disclosed during the daily COVID-19 update.
However, as the Christmas season approaches, the Prime Minister, Brigadier (ret’d) Mark Phillips, has sent a stern warning to families for them to celebrate their holiday in adherence with the National COVID-19 measures and, most importantly, by keeping their gatherings small.
He went on to say that Operation COVI-CURB – which involves the Government, Joint Services, Private Sector and non-governmental organisations – will be continuing its work throughout the festive season. Phillips has said he is contented with their achievement thus far in sensitising the public. Notwithstanding, he said, people have a responsibility to keep themselves safe as well.
For the month of December, the National COVID-19 Measures have been extended and the curfew has remained from 10:30pm to 04:00am. It states that no one is permitted to host or attend a private party, banquet hall, bar or club, among other places. Failure to comply with the mandatory mask requirement would make persons liable under Section 152 of the Public Health Ordinance.
This order emphasises, among other things, the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home; the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others; and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
