Guyana secures silver medal in team championships

Caribbean Badminton Team Championships 2016 – Aruba…

The Guyana Badminton Team consisting of SUNBURST Narayan Ramdhani, Jonathan Mangra, Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj placed second in the overall team event at the Caribbean Badminton Team Championships in Aruba on Tuesday evening.

The Guyanese defeated Suriname 3-2 in the semi-finals by virtue of siblings Narayan & Priyanna Ramdhani winning the mix doubles.

However, they lost by a 3-2 score line in an exciting final, 3-2 to The Dominican Republic.

In the team Championships, Boys & Girls Singles, Boys & Girls Doubles & Mix Doubles must be played to get five points. To win, the team must win three of the matches to gain three points.

In the boys singles, Narayan lost to Cesar Brito: 11-21, 15-21 while in the girls singles, Ambika Ramraj lost to Nairobi Jimenez: 4-21, 6-21. In the boys’ doubles Narayan and Jonathan defeated Wilmer Brea and Bryan Castro: 21-16, 21-9. Similarly in the girls’ doubles, Priyanna and Ambika defeated Carmen Garcia and Francesca Matias: 21-9, 21-7. However, in the mixed doubles, Jonathan and Priyanna lost to Argenis Marinez Nairobi Jimenez.

Guyana topped Group B by beating Barbados and Aruba while in Aruba while Group A Dominican Republic won against Trinidad & Tobago & Suriname.
