Guyana set to battle for top honours in 2019 Caribbean Mini and Pre Cadet Table Tennis Championships

Guyana will begin their quest for top honours in the 2019 Caribbean Mini and Pre Cadet Table Tennis Championships in the Dominican Republic, as such, with the competition commencing, the Guyanese contingent have been grouped into their respective categories.

The Guyanese Team

The 11 years and under boys’ team will be represented by Malachi Moore, Caribbean Hopes Participant and Ebo McNeil (Debutant Linden Region 10), as they have been grouped with Jamaica and the Dominican Republic in group two. Meanwhile, the 11 years and under girls’ team will be represented by National Cadet Champion Jasmine Billingy, the talented Samara Sukhai, and athletically gifted Akira Watson, seeded two in group 3 along with Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic team.
In the boys’ 13 years and under team championships, Guyana will field two teams. Team one being National 13, 15, and 18 years and under boys’ champion Jonathan Van Lange, the talented Krystian Sahadeo, Dhanesh Persaud and Colin Wong in team two. Van Lange and Sahadeo seeded 2 in group 4 with Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Dominican Republic. While Dhanesh Persaud and Colin Wong seeded 3 are group 1 alongside Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
Dominican Republic, as host, are allowed to field 4 teams, while visiting delegations can field two teams in each category of the team events given that these championships are developmental— which allow the host to field. Teams can be maximum of three players, minimum of 2 two players with play utilising the corbeling system, which has play in team events using the format of singles, singles, doubles and reverse singles.
Team Guyana will be hopeful as they were only able to bag two silver medals in the 2018 edition of the tournament.
