With the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) having officially launched Guyana Softball Cup 8, and all logistics sorted, softball fans will witness two days of intense action under floodlights from October 26-28 in Georgetown and the East Coast of Demerara.
GFSCA Secretary Anil Beharry has stated that he was very excited as the first match was soon to be played. He also thanked the sponsors for the work they have been doing over the years, and for their continuous support.
Beharry went on to say that this event was one of the biggest softball events in the world. He also said that everything was set in place, and they were ready for action.
With only a day remaining, many business entities have pledged their allegiance and continued support, making fans and players dreams worthwhile as they have donated big to the tournament. Some of these entities are Steve’s Jewellery, who will reward the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Open, Over-45 and Over-50 categories with gold pendants in the shape of cricket bats accentuated with diamond studs.
Survival Group of Companies has also come on board and would be rewarding fans with gate prizes, which will include five hampers and a trip for three couples to local destinations such as Kaieteur Falls and Orinduik Falls.
The registration fee for the Open category will remain at US$400, with the prize money set at US$4000; while the cost for registration for the Masters categories (O-45 and O-50) is set at US$700. The prize money for the Masters’ categories is yet to be determined.
The tournament will feature teams from New York, Guyana, Canada and Florida. The category finals will be held on October 28, 2018 at DCC commencing at 10:00h and conclude with the Open finals under floodlights.
