Caribbean Boxing Championships
– finish 3rd overall
Guyana’s quartet of boxers at the Caribbean Developmental Boxing Championships (CBC) in St Lucia was impressive as they punched their way to three gold and a silver medal on Saturday night.

After securing spots in their respective weight class finals the Guyanese were guaranteed medals, the only question was if it would be a gold or silver medal.
Middleweight Desmond Amsterdam was impressive as he claimed Gold to retain the title he won last year. Amsterdam dispatched of Keenan Mortley of St Lucia while Bantamweight Keevin Allicock won Gold in his fight by dominating his Bajan opponent Ajayi Jones.
Light Welterweight Colin “Superman” Lewis reclaimed his title as well winning Gold ahead of Jessie Jones while lightweight Joel “Stone” Williamson had to settle for silver after narrowly losing his final to Michael Alexander of Trinidad .

Bantamweight Keevin Allicock impressed yet again earning Gold at the CBC in St Lucia

Team Grenada was crowned the champions of the CBC. The Spice Island dominated most of the categories to seal their first Caribbean title.
Grenada won 18 medals at the championships, followed closely by Barbados in second. Defending champions Guyana finished 3rd, while team St. Lucia behind an outstanding gold medal performance by Lyndell Marcellin, finished 4th at the championships.
In an exclusive interview with Guyana Times Sport, Guyana Boxing Association President Steve Ninvalle explained; “It’s what we expected. Had we sent a larger team we would have retained the Caribbean title with ease. The boxers and coaches have been hard at work and the results prove just that. All of the boxers who participated at Caribbean Championship will be on show Boxing Day on the Sons of Champions card organized by the Guyana Boxing Association and Briso Promotions”.
