Guyana has assumed the Chairmanship of the Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System (CASSOS) for the 2026-2028 term, as the organisation’s Board of Directors held its 29th meeting in Georgetown.
The meeting was held on Friday, October 2, at the Aiden by Best Western Hotel, with the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Lt Col (Ret’d) Egbert Field, presiding over the session in his first meeting as Chairman.
Representatives from all CASSOS member states attended the meeting, which focused on several regional aviation priorities.
Among the matters on the agenda was the full implementation of the CARICOM Multilateral Air Services Agreement (MASA), along with proposed organisational restructuring and measures aimed at strengthening CASSOS’s financial sustainability.

The Board also discussed the advancement of the One Stop Security initiative, which is intended to support greater cooperation in aviation security across the region.
The discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation and advancing aviation safety and security standards among Caribbean countries.
CASSOS is a specialised unit within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) responsible for supporting aviation safety and security oversight across the region.
Guyana’s two-year Chairmanship places the country in the leadership of the regional aviation oversight system through 2028, with the Board expected to continue work on the organisation’s strategic priorities during the period.
