Guyana to participate in June 21st tournament

1st FIDE Online Chess Cup for U-20 players with disabilities…

The first FIDE Online Chess Cup for U20 players with disabilities is set to be staged on June 21st, 2020. It is an open individual tournament for junior players between the ages of eight and 19 years old as at December 31, 2019; and to be eligible to participate, players must belong to any of the three categories of disability: visually-impaired, hearing-impaired, or physically-disabled.
The tournament is to be played in online format, and Guyana is set to participate in this format; more details are to follow in the coming weeks.
Registered junior members of all FIDE federations whose dates of birth fall between December 31, 2000 and December 31, 2011 have been invited to participate in this first Junior Online FIDE Cup for players with disabilities. All players should have previously been registered with the FIDE DIS Commission, or should register when they express an intent to participate.
The event is to be played as an Open Swiss System tournament of five (5) rounds on the Hosting Internet Platform (HIP) chosen by FIDE DIS. The event will, in all aspects, adhere to the FIDE Laws of Chess and the FIDE General Regulations for Competitions, except in those aspects where the contrary is explicitly announced by the Chief Arbiter.
Time control is 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move, starting from move one (10’ + 5” increment). DIS will determine, in consultation with HIP, which player ratings will be used in the tournament. The final ranking order of the players would be determined by the number of points scored.
If, at the end of the tournament, two or more players are tied for any place, the following tie-break criterion would be applied in the listed order: sum of the progressive scores, MedianBuchholz (ignoring the best and worst score).
The tournament would take place on June 21, 2020. An online technical meeting would be held at 14:30 CEST (UTC+2) via a Zoom conference. Round One would start at 15:00 CEST (UTC+2). The subsequent rounds would start sharply on the hour: Round 2 – 16:00 CEST, Round 3 – 17:00 CEST, Round 4 – 18:00 CEST, Round 5 – 19:00 CEST.
There would be no default time, and no penalty would be imposed on a player if s/he is late for any of his/her games; his/her clock would simply keep running until the flag falls.
The prizes would be allocated as follows: For the first-place finisher and the best among girls: a three-hour teaching session with Grand Master Thomas Luther. For the top three places overall and the top three among girls: a “special package chess gift” including a) Backpack b) T-shirt c) Cap. All participants would receive a chess gift (mug).
Every player is eligible to win or share only one prize, and will receive the most prestigious one. For instance, if the second-place finisher is at the same time the best among girls, she will receive the best among girls’ prize.
Registration deadline is 15:00 CEST June 15, 2020.
