Guyana U17 suffer 6-0 defeat to Honduras

The Junior Lady Jags team took on their Honduran counterparts in the CONCACAF Under-17 Qualifiers on Saturday morning, and suffered a 6-0 loss as the tournament continued at the IMG Academy in Florida, USA.
Following a narrow victory over Anguilla on Thursday, the Junior Lady Jags came in for some heavy blows from Honduras, who were coming off another large-margin win against the Turks and Caicos Girls on Thursday.
This time around, Captain Akeelah Vancooten, Sidney Facey, Ciara Sarius, Alyssa Blake, Nakasi St Jules, Sara Matthies, Anaya Willabus, Sue Edwards, Karan Jupiter, Sandra Johnson and Jalade Trim got the nod as the starting XI.
Honduras took a while to find their groove against the Junior Lady Jags. However, with the first goal finding the back of the net in the 28th minute, the flow soon became too much for the local ladies to handle.

It was a fierce battle between Honduras and Guyana

Taking a chance on a long shot, Anyeli Rodriguez sunk the first goal, and that was followed by a goal from Karla Calix in the 29th, after challenging Guyana’s goalie, Sidney Facey.
In another one-on-one challenge with the goal’s custodian, Calix made it a 3-0 affair in the 45th, and then completed her hattrick in the 48th, giving Honduras the perfect opening to the second half.
After the break, Guyana’s management opted to have their goalie switched out with the introduction of Anostasha Coppin, but the result was the same. Coppin, in attempting to save another shot at the box, effected an own goal, adding a fifth goal to the Honduras score.
A foul in the box during added time saw Rodriguez sink another goal into the Guyana net for the sixth, as the encounter ended 6-0.
Guyana will play their final group game on Monday, November 1, against Turks and Caicos at the same venue. Also in Group C, Honduras will take on Anguilla. The Under-17 Girls are playing for a chance to book a spot in the CONCACAF 2022 Under-17 Championships.
As the qualification process goes, the top finisher in each group will advance, as would the best second place finisher.
