Guyana, Windward Islands to open regional U-19 campaign today

Five-time Cricket West Indies (CWI) One-Day Regional Under-19 defending champions, Guyana, will open their campaign against the Kimani Melius-led Windward Islands team at Arnos Vale, St Vincent and the Grenadines today, Sunday July 28, from 9:30h local time.

Kevlon Anderson

Led by their captain, Ashmead Nedd, the Guyana Under-19 Team appear to be a strong outfit, with eight players from the 2018 champion team included in this 2019 team. Their batting will be led by West Indies selectees Kevlon Anderson and Sachin Singh, known prolific run scorers.
Opening batsmen Junior Sinclair and Alex Algoo are each a perfect complement for the other, and each will be aiming to provide their team with a good start in this One-Day 50-over tournament.
In Singh and Anderson, the middle order looks solid, with Alphius Bookie, Garfield Benjamin and Seon Glasgow also in the fold.
Adrian Hinds, who plays for the Transport Sports Club, is expected to perform wicket-keeping duties, while West Indies U-19 spin twins Ashmead Nedd and Kelvin Umroa are expected to perform in the middle overs.
Joel Spooner and newbie Daniel Mootoo, the right-arm off-spinner, are anticipated to offer sterling support in the spin department.

Kimani Melius

Pace ace Qumar Torrington is expected to lead the pace attack, with support from quickie Leon Swamy.
Guyana’s first opponent, the Windward Islands, are by no means a walkover team. Further, they are led by the highly talented Kimani Melius, the 18-year old who has already played in an ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup tournament, besides three First Class matches and five List ‘A’ matches for the Windward Islands.
This right-handed opening batsman has recorded a First-Class 50 against Barbados, and has played for The West Indies ‘B’ team in the 2018/19 Regional Super50 Cup.
The contest will be a scintillating clash between Guyana and the Windward Islands, with Guyana looking to clinch their sixth Regional Under-19 title in as many years.
