According to the WHO, coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 that had not been previously identified in humans. Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.
Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.
Guyana Times had reported that 27-year-old Suraj Baboolal, who was among the first set of persons to test positive, had made a recovery from the deadly virus.
The young man, along with three other family members, had tested positive for the potentially deadly infectious disease and were in a Government isolation facility for some 22 days.
Other relatives, who tested negative, were quarantined due to their exposure to the country’s first imported case of COVID-19. Suraj along with his father and brother were cleared to go home, after having recovered from the virus and have since said that they feel lucky to have overcome COVID-19.
