President Irfaan Ali on Monday outlined Guyana’s strategic, economic and diversification opportunities during a discussion hosted by the Florida International University (FIU) Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom at the Harvard Club of New York City. According to Ali, the discussion focused on key areas of growth and opportunity as Guyana continues to expand its productive capacity and develop new markets. The President identified energy, mining, agriculture, infrastructure, biodiversity and environmental sustainability among the sectors offering opportunities for further development. He also highlighted the Government’s focus on strengthening Guyana’s human capital to support both emerging and existing sectors of the economy. Ali said collaboration with local companies would also be important as Guyana expands connectivity and strengthens its productive capacity.
“I also underscored the significant opportunities for collaboration with local companies as we expand connectivity, strengthen our productive capacity and position Guyana to access new markets,” Ali said in a post on his social media page. The President’s comments come as Guyana continues to pursue economic diversification beyond the oil and gas sector, while investing in infrastructure, human capital and other productive areas. He said the discussions also highlighted the need to position Guyana to take advantage of opportunities in new and existing markets.
