Guyana’s MA Referees Course 2026 commences with FIFA support

Local referees will have the opportunity to edify themselves over the next few days as the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), in collaboration with FIFA, opened the Guyana Member Association (MA) Referees’ Course 2026 on Tuesday, August 25, at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Headquarters, Liliendaal.
According to a missive from the federation, the opening sessions focused on key areas of modern refereeing, including the Fitness Test Technical Centre, new law procedures following the 2026 FIFA World Cup (FWC), and tactical fouls. The team also examined the latest changes and modifications to the Laws of the Game introduced following the tournament, ensuring officials are equipped with the knowledge and understanding required to apply the updated regulations effectively.

The opening ceremony brought together match officials and instructors, including three FIFA international instructors supporting the continued development of refereeing in Guyana: FIFA Technical Instructor Dianne Ferreira-James, Referee Development Officer Javier Santos, and Fitness Instructor Gabriel Majia.
They were joined by local technical instructors Natasha Lewis and Sherwin Johnson; local fitness instructor Tyrone Tyrrell; and Head of Referees (HOR) Lenval Peart, who are also contributing to the delivery and development of the course.
The course is designed to strengthen local refereeing standards in line with FIFA methodology through targeted education, technical development and practical support. Participants will examine recent changes and developments in the Laws of the Game, with sessions covering challenges, tactical fouls, handball, penalty-area incidents, and effective game management.
The initiative represents another important step in the continued development of Guyana’s match officials and the alignment of local refereeing with international standards.
