The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) intercepted a United States-bound Guyanese woman at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) as she was about to board a flight destined for the United States.
According to reports, the 26-year-old woman was about to board a flight for New York when the bust was made on Sunday by agents of CANU.
Information has revealed that the woman, who was travelling on a US visitors visa, was intercepted with some 1.5 pounds of cocaine that was concealed in a straw bag she was carrying.
As persons continue to find the most innovative ways to traffic narcotics in and out of Guyana, anti-narcotics officials have become more vigilant and diligent in their operations, particularly at the country’s main port of entry – the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Only last month, ranks attached to the Police Narcotics Branch seized six kilograms and four grams of cocaine at the CJIA that was destined to be shipped to the US.
According to Police officials, the drugs were found in a cargo shipment of frozen fish concealed in a number of boxes.
