Thirty-two-year-old Barnwell appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs and denied the charge which stated that on March 23, 2019, at Thomas lands, Georgetown, he assaulted Trevor Benn, a police officer.
Reports are the two men were playing a friendly cricket match when an argument ensued. It is alleged that the argument escalated and Barnwell allegedly pushed the policeman to the ground. Persons in the area intervened and the matter was reported to the police. Following a bail application by Defence Attorney Nigel Hughes, Magistrate Isaacs released the cricketer on $30,000 bail. The case will continue on August 19, 2019.
Barnwell, who is an all-rounder, plays for Guyana Jaguars.
