Home Letters Guyanese Diaspora in Middle East congratulates HE President Irfaan Ali & Ministers...
Dear Editor,
We, members of the Guyanese Diaspora residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, express sincere congratulations to His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali; Hon. Vice President and General Secretary of the PPP/C, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo; Hon. Prime Minister, Brigadier Mark Phillips; and the New Government on your accession to office, after being victorious in the March 2, 2020 elections in Guyana.
We pray for your well-being and guidance as you embark on your mission to fulfil the onerous ‘Trust of Leadership’ conferred upon you by the people of Guyana. Allah’s Blessings and best wishes for a very successful term!
Additionally, we take this opportunity to thank you (political leadership) and all peace-loving and law-abiding citizens of Guyana, especially the GECOM Chairperson, senior members of the Judiciary, Joint Services, civil society organizations and the smaller political parties, for the patience, tolerance, resilience and maturity exemplified during the gruelling five months of post -election political fiasco, impasse, high drama, and seemingly never-ending saga that gripped our nation.
Allah be praised for bringing Guyana safely through this turmoil and disorder! Indeed, prayers for the triumph of patience, peace, justice and fairness have been answered!
Further, we wish to humbly appeal to you, President Ali, and your Government, to epitomise responsible, accountable, and benevolent leadership, the hallmark of which is justice, transparency, empathy, peace, equality and harmony. Moreover, we urge that you exemplify a government which is inclusive, magnanimous and altruistic, and not one that is the opposite.
Over the years, despite the ingenuity, resourcefulness and hospitality of our people, Guyanese have endured a lot of suffering, humiliation and indignation, which stemmed from entrenched dictatorship, corruption, and economic and social injustice. With the prospect of unprecedented wealth due from the harvesting of our vast natural resources, particularly from the oil-and-gas sector, all Guyanese look forward to a better and brighter future; the least being a society in which no citizen would any longer be ravaged or humiliated by hunger, homelessness, disease, illiteracy or hopelessness.
In keeping with your party’s election promises, Your Excellency‘s Administration is poised to lay the foundation for Guyana to become a modern welfare state in which basic/essential services, education, health care and housing are either freely provided or greatly subsidised by the state, especially for the most deserving and vulnerable sections of our society.
Undoubtedly, the task of nation-building is not only arduous and painstaking, but requires time and cooperation of the entire citizenry. We therefore call on all Guyanese to support the new Government as it endeavours to rule in the best interest of all Guyanese, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, class, or political persuasion, as has been promised by the President and other senior members of his Administration.
May Allah grant you, Your Excellency President Ali, and your Administration His blessings and divine enablement! Now that you have accepted the mantle to serve, serve well!
Sincerely,
Mohamed Haseeb
