Police in Antigua are investigating a fatal accident which resulted in the death of a Guyanese man over the weekend.
Dead is Vijai Persaud. Reports from Antigua Newsroom stated that the accident occurred at 23:55h on Saturday on Friars Hill Road, in the vicinity of Sir Wright George Police Academy, Antigua. According to the Antigua Newsroom, Persaud, of Hodges Bay, who was the driver of a silver-grey Honda Step Wagon C 16005, was travelling from west to east on the road at a high rate of speed when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, and ran off the southern side of the road, causing the vehicle to flip several times, before it halted.
As a result of the impact, Persaud was thrown from the wreckage and was found lying face down. A doctor was summoned to the scene and pronounced Persaud dead around 12:31h on Sunday, the Antigua Newsroom reported.
The publication stated that Police on the island had warned residents to slow down on the roadways after 67 accidents were recorded last week. (G9)
