Guyanese fisherman feared dead after falling overboard during scuffle
Thirty-three-year-old Vibert Bacchus, a Guyanese fisherman who now resides in Suriname, is feared dead after he reportedly fell overboard during a fight. Bacchus, previously of Corriverton, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), migrated to Suriname about three years ago where he worked with private fishing vessels.

His mother who remains in Guyana was informed that her son was missing on Friday evening but he actually fell overboard on November 30. The woman, Waneeta Shivgobin, related that after she received the news, she immediately contacted his employer who confirmed that the man is missing.
The circumstances remain the same, in that he and another crew member had a misunderstanding which resulted in a scuffle and it was then, both men fell overboard. The other crew member managed to survive but Bacchus never resurfaced.
The grieving mother is hoping that her son is rescued so that he can return home. The man with whom Bacchus had the misunderstanding is reportedly in Police custody in Suriname.
