Guyanese gets 3-year Indian Classical Dance scholarship

Guyanese Dayvishanie Naipaul will spend the next three years in Delhi, India pursuing a three-year scholarship for Indian Classical Dance which she has been granted at Bharatnatayam under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships.

The Indian High Commission announced on Wednesday that Naipaul, who hails from the county of Essequibo and is a self-taught dancer since the age of five years, has learnt kathak and Indian Bollywood dances; and now, at 22, she has started an academy in Essequibo named “Dayvishanie Dance Academy”, in which she currently has 10 students.
During her meeting with High Commissioner Dr KJ Srinivasa, Naipaul related that she is very grateful to the High Commission of India for the opportunity to learn more about Indian Culture, and she’s very ecstatic to return to Guyana to educate her students in the academy.
She noted that more Guyanese should make use of this opportunity to study in India, learning more about the culture and history of India.
Meanwhile, High Commissioner Dr KJ Srinivasa stated that such scholarships enhance cultural exchange and contribute to further India-Guyana cooperation. He also informed that the High Commission of India in Georgetown is currently offering nine scholarships under the ICCR programme.
