Guyanese Golfers ‘sit pretty’ after opening day

Suriname’s Republic Bank Invitational 2019…

Golf rivalry between Caricom neighbouring countries peaked last weekend when top golfers from Guyana engaged their Surinamese counterparts on Day 1 of that country’s annual Republic Bank International Invitational Golf Tournament.

The Guyanese contingent to this tournament, comprised of 8 males and 3 females, can yet emerge champions thereof; but it would be ‘a tough call’, as each would have to give of their respective best to secure top positions as the tournament heads into the final day’s play.
In flight ‘A’, Kishore was in third position along with four others; Persaud was in eighth position along with 2 others; and LGC President Alim Hussain was at 11th, along with another.
In flight ‘B’, Harry was 2nd along with another; London was the only 4th; George Bulkan was 6th along with 2 others; Ramsundar was 9th along with another; and Ronald Bulkan was 16th along with 2 others.
In flight ‘C’, Cadogan was in 3rd position, having produced an outstanding performance to become the only golfer to bag 3 eagles on Day 1.
In flight ‘D’, Shanella London was in 3rd with 2 others, while Deo was in 6th with 2 others; and in flight ‘E’, Giddings was in 9th position.
Guyana, having performed creditably at this tournament in 2018, when its 22-player team had captured more than 50% of the prizes on offer, is expected to do likewise in 2019.
This Suriname tournament is the tee-off for major 2019 golf tournaments in the Caribbean region, as annual invitational tournaments in Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados will follow in rapid order.
LGC President Alim Hussain anticipates that not only would Guyana’s golfers perform well in Suriname, but they would claim titles in other territories.
