Guyanese man arraigned in Brazil for attempted murder

A Guyanese national was on Saturday evening arrested in neighbouring Brazil for attempting to murder Venezuelan refugees in Boa Vista, Roraima.
It was reported that the 42-year-old Guyanese man, Gordon “Jamaica” Fowler, had set fire to homes that were being occupied by Venezuelan refugees. Fowler was subsequently arrested by the General Homicide Office of the Civilian Police, near the crime scene. The man was arrested based on a number of items in his possession such as a lighter, alcohol and a sign bearing the word “fire”. He was also said to be wearing the same clothing that the perpetrator was wearing at the time of the attack, as was recorded on a security camera.
According to Police reports, the man who lives on the streets of Boa Vista has confessed to the crime. He stated that he had no vendetta against the victims, but they were targeted because of their easy accessibility. The refugees in that area tend to reside in structures that have no doors or windows or in abandoned properties which are plentiful in the area. The man was also aggravated about a misunderstanding he had and about having his bicycle stolen.
When he is taken to court, Fowler will answer to two charges of attempted murder. Specifically, double attempted murder for two persons he injured in his first attack and triple attempted murder for a family he hit in his second attack.
