The incident occurredat Honey Camp Landing in the Middle Mazaruni riverine community of 9 Miles Backdam in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) early on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, James and the suspect had both been employed by gold miner Alister Culpepper; and following the incident, Culpepper recounted to police that the group, including James and “Nigi,” had completed work at the mining site on Monday, and had spent the evening drinking at Honey Camp Landing.
James’s reputed wife Rebecca Anton has said she had taken her intoxicated partner back to their camp early on Tuesday, and upon their arrival, they encountered “Nigi,” who was drinking high wine. She said a heated argument had ensued between the two men over who was their employer.
