Guyanese qualify for 4 finals

Team Guyana’s Badminton players excelled at the Caribbean Regional and International Badminton Championships being played at the National Racket Centre in Tacarigua, Trinidad by qualifying for four finals at the end of Saturday’s activity.
The day started with the Opening Ceremony before the games commenced. Guyana High Commissioner Cammie Ramsaroop and members of the Guyana Consulate were present, and interacted with the Guyanese team.
Advancing to the final were Priyanna Ramdhani in three events: Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Tyrese Jeffrey is in the Mixed Doubles Under-17 Finals with Priyanna; and Ambika Ramraj is in the Girls Doubles Under-19 Finals.
The following is the outcome from the third day of competition.
Under-17 Girls Singles Semi-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) defeated Chaista Soemodipoero (SUR): 21-14, 21-6

Action in the under 17 mixed double semi-final

Under-17 Girls Doubles Semi-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) and Imani Mangroe (SUR) defeated Shania Lee and Eban Sandy (TRI): 21-3, 21-3.
Under-17 Mixed Doubles Semi-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani and Tyrese Jeffrey defeated the powerhouse Jamaican pair of Mikhael Williams and Shezelle Mctyson in a thrilling three-setter.
However, it was not easy sailing for the Guyanese duo, who lost the first set at 16-21, but recovered to win the next two sets at 21-12 and 24-22 respectively.
During the third match, with the scores at 20-20, Priyanna, playing a diving shot, sprained three fingers on her left hand, but this did not stop her determination to play on and win the game at 22-20.
Under-17 Boys Doubles Semi-Finals: Tyrese Jeffrey and Akili Haynes (GUY) lost to Jamaicans Jair Naipal and Geordan Tjon Kon Joen in a thrilling three setter: 21-17, 7-21, 21-19.
Under-19 Girls Doubles Semi-Finals: Ambika Ramraj (GUY) and Shemara Lindveld (SUR) defeated Cheyanna Burnett Griffith and Krystle Clarke (BAR): 21-11, 21-8
Under-19 Boys Doubles Semi-Finals: Jonathan Mangra (GUY) and Cesar Brito (DOM) lost to Shae Martin and Keshem Moore (BAR): 21-11, 21-14
Masters over-45 doubles round robin: Gokarn Ramdhani and Dr. Nicholas Waldron won one Match out of three against the Trinidad pairs. They were successful against Andre Lewis and Derek Singh: 21-18, 21-18. They lost to Christopher Joachim and Arnand Maharaj 21-16, 27-25 and Sheraz Khan and Allan Young: 14-21, 21-13, 21-13
