Guyanese react to Guyana Amazon Warriors’ performance
Avi Dhanpaul – “They didn’t play their best match yet; the top four need to click in the semi if they are going to make the finals.”
Kenroy Joseph – “Amazon Warriors team hasn’t been playing good this season. And they are missing “big hitters”. The team administration isn’t addressing the issue of a high dot ball consumption, so the team batting will continue to fail. Hence, it is highly unlikely that Warriors will make it past St Kitts in the semi-finals.”
Bryion Bowen – “We started off the tournament well as a unit, but I think we can do way better in the batting department. The bowling is spot on. I don’t think we have a problem with that, with the likes of [Imran] Tahir, [Shoaib] Malik, Naveen [ul-Haq], Odean [Smith], and [Romario] Shepherd, but the batting department is inconsistent and I think we should work more on that.”
Mohamad Nasir – “I think the Guyana Amazon Warriors have had a decent run thus far in the competition, but still haven’t clicked all the boxes to produce the almost close-to-perfect game. Getting to the playoffs will increase the confidence of the unit to hopefully take it further to the finals and winning the competition.
“The batting department needs consistency; I don’t think any batter had two good scores in a row. That to me is a challenge. Good performances from [Chandrapaul] Hemraj, [Brandon] King, [Shimron] Hetmyer and [Nicholas] Pooran are needed to help the team get over the line.
The bowling department continues to produce year after year; and to me, [Gudakesh] Motie and Odean are our best finds for 2021. Shepherd continues his good work with ball and bat and that is good heading into the play-offs.
I expect good things from this franchise over the next two days. Let’s bring it home, boys!”
Kizzy Toney – “The Warriors played well so far in CPL 2021, but if they were more consistent in the batting, I felt like they would’ve finished on top of the table. Nevertheless, their bowling was exceptional so far as usual. Going into the semi-finals and the finals, I believe good batting performances from them will take them over the line, because that has been their downfall and the last three games they would’ve won showed that it was indeed, so if they can get that right, I know their bowlers won’t let them down and in the end, we can finally say yea “is we year”, the moment we are all anticipating.”
Colin Bynoe – “As a true fan of the Guyana Amazon Warriors throughout the years, we always have a season where we scrape our way out of the league stage. This year, we haven’t clicked all the boxes collectively. I’m hoping that we do so in the semi against SKNP. Fingers crossed that experienced players like Malik and “Hetty” can step up at this critical juncture. It would certainly be a competitive one, ‘cause Warriors went down twice to them earlier. I have that faith that we will be in the finals again this year. As we GAW fans would say “this year is we year” definitely this year.”
Simon Naidu – “Being an Amazon Warriors fan for over the past years, I will say we always have that good combined team effort, but at some part in the tournament we always lose that and I do hope this year – which we always say every year – we gonna win. Let’s hope that the boys keep the momentum going and let’s bring that trophy home – stay focused, guys, all the best.”
Joshua Ramnarine – “As a fan of Warriors, I am really impressed by a couple players. The best all-rounder in the CPL, Romario Shepherd has really impressed with bat and ball. His death-over bowling is superb and his power hitting has been great too. The young Odean Smith has impressed with his fast-pace bowling, his ability to take wickets and put pressure on the opposition. The team has gelled together well in the last few league games after quite a few hiccups in the first half of the tournament – looks more stable and everyone adapted to their role really well. On the negatives, I think Hetty needs to push on, sometimes getting starts and not carrying on. Shoaib Malik isn’t scoring the amount of runs we would like, but due to his experience I think he will come good in the final stage of the tournament. If they continue to play good cricket, they can win it this year.”
Melissa Jupiter – “I think the Warriors are performing great. I mean our batting hasn’t been up to standard, but our bowling has been on point. Heading into the semi-finals I know that we will work all the kinks out and emerge victorious. And then win the finals.”
Kavita Singh – “I think the Warriors will win this year. I am enjoying the performances of Odean Smith, Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd. Once the Warriors play to potential and put a collective effort in, we will win it for sure this year.”
