Guyanese to take part in softball cricket in Cuba

On Thursday, Miramar Masters Cricket Club, with a number of Guyanese nationals, left for Cuba to play four matches against the local teams. This is according to Ramzan Roshanali, Guyana’s Honorary Consul to Florida, and the man leading the effort.

The team will be participating in the ‘First Cuba-Guyana Solidarity Softball Cricket Tournament” in celebration of Guyana’s 47th Republic Day Anniversary – Mashramani; and at the same time, will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of cricket in Cuba. Miramar Masters Cricket Club has been invited to Cuba by H.E. Ambassador Halim Majeed, and Proyecto Habana Veija and 38 members of the club will be going across to take part in the tournament. Included among the members will be supporters who are predicting a good time mixing cricket, socialization and business. In addition, there will also be the serious business of finding ways to spread and improve the game of cricket in Cuba. According to Roshanali : “This is the first softball cricket tournament in Cuba, and we are already planning to invite teams from Guyana, Canada and New York next year. We are taking cricket equipment sponsored by the Guyana Amazon Warriors organization to distribute to teams that play hardball cricket.” In addition to the other sponsor, Cricket Council USA is also assisting the Miramar Masters Cricket Club on this tour, and is the major sponsor.
