The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) on Sunday, June 26 conducted a female volleyball tournament at the Guyana National Service (GNS) ground, Carifesta Avenuein honour of International Olympic Day 2016 which is observed on June 23.
Participating clubs included Linden Central, Spikelands, Vanguards, Guyana Defence Force, Plaisance, and St Cuthberts Mission.
The Vanguard Female Club emerged the strongest club, winning 1st place with Linden Central carting off 2nd place.
Playing Linden Central in the finals, the Georgetown-based Vanguard club won two sets to one after the teams were tied one game each while playing some very entertaining volleyball. The girls from the mining town of Linden would however, display tiredness in the 3rd and final set and gave the city girls an easy win eventually.
The young female team of Plaisance Volleyball Club was awarded the trophy for the Most Improved Team and Nikita Samaroo of Vanguard was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. Samaroo capped off an impressive days’ performance by also walking away with trophies for the Best Setter and the Best Server.
Odile Broomes of Vanguard received the Best Receiver Award while Bowman also of Vanguard Received the Best Spiker Award.
