GWI worker charged for killing ex-lover’s boyfriend
A Guyana Water Inc (GWI) employee, who allegedly killed his ex-lover’s new boyfriend on December 30 was slapped with a murder charge and hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Nigel Thomas of Lot 136 James and Victoria Streets, Albouystown, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. It is alleged that on December 30, 2019, at Guyhoc, Georgetown, he murdered Kyle Chase.
The 20-year-old man was represented by Attorney-at-Law Adrian Thompson, who told the court that his client received injuries to his head and was a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. According to Thompson, his client does not know anything about the victim’s death.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield informed the court that at about 23:00h on the day in question, the victim was at the female’s home when the accused went there.
The prosecutor said that upon seeing 23-year-old Chase, the accused became enraged and an argument erupted. The court was told that the accused pulled out a screwdriver and dealt the victim several stabs to the neck. According to the prosecutor, the injured man was rushed to the David Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The court also heard that the accused received minor injuries and was treated. The prosecutor stated that the matter was reported to the East La Penitence Police Station and the accused was arrested. The court also heard that the two men are known to each other. Thomas was remanded to prison and the case will continue on January 28, 2020.
