GY$3M top prize as GFF expands Super 16 Cup

The champions of the expanded 2026/2027 Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super 16 Cup will collect GY$3 million from a guaranteed GY$7.3 million allocation in team prizes and grants, with competition scheduled to begin on November 19.
The annual year-end tournament will open with 15 regional clubs competing in five groups of three. Each group winner will advance to the Round of 16, with the qualifying phase concluding on December 8.
The five regional qualifiers will join the ten GFF Elite League clubs and the Rupununi Football Association champion for the knockout phase, which begins on December 12. The final is set for January 1, 2027.
Alongside the champions’ GY$3 million pay-out, the runners-up will receive GY$2 million, while third and fourth place will earn GY$1 million and GY$500,000, respectively.

Those placement prizes total GY$6.5 million, with a further GY$800,000 allocated in incidental grants for the 16 teams reaching the knockout stage. Regional clubs will also receive transportation allowances.
Individual awards will recognise the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and Highest Goal-scorer.
Announcing the expanded competition on October 22, the GFF said the format forms part of its efforts to strengthen regional football and create a clearer pathway between grassroots and elite competition.
GFF President Wayne Forde said the tournament would give clubs from across the country greater access to national competition while supporting the federation’s wider development plans.

“Our vision is to build a football ecosystem where the best clubs from every region have a genuine opportunity to compete on the national stage,” Forde said.
“The Super 16 Cup represents that ambition, bringing together excellence from across Guyana while inspiring stronger clubs, greater investment, and new pathways for emerging talent.”
The federation said the expanded tournament reinforces its commitment to regional development and competitive excellence, bringing leading clubs together to contest one national title.
