Hackett keeps Escarraga at bay to take LGC/Massy Golf Tourney
… LGC working to improve course as Guyana Open approaches
The action continued on Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) as the Massy Golf Tournament got off to a bang.
The medal play over 18 holes and shotgun-start tournament brought the heat as many of Guyana’s top golfers battled on the course. But in the end, it was only one man that stood on top of the pinnacle and that was Brian Hackett.
The results for the tournament were as follows:
* 1st – Brian Hackett, HC 20, Gross 90, Net 70
* 2nd – Guillermo Escarraga, HC 18, Gross 90, Net 72
* 3rd – Rackesh Harry, HC 9, Gross 82, Net 73
* Nearest to the pin – Hilbert Shields
* Longest Drive – Mike Mangal
* Best Gross – Rakesh Harry (82)
At the end of the tournament, speaking on behalf of the Club was Captain Videsh Persaud, who said, “The tournament was a great success, it saw 31 players registered, with 30 taking the field. The course played as expected and provided the ideal conditions for a high level of competition in the tournament once again, seeing very close scores on the leader board. The high point of the tournament would have to be the anticipation of results as players were making their way in from the field. We would like to extend much thanks to Massy for their sponsorship and their pledge to continue to support the LGC in the coming years. The LGC going forward is expected to have more tournaments leading up to the Guyana Open.”
As it relates to the local contingent and the highly-anticipated Guyana Open, Persaud explained that it was his belief that the local golfers were shaping up well as has been seen in tournaments hosted by the Club over the past weeks. He noted that it has been very competitive and everyone was improving their games as they prepare for the upcoming tournament. Persaud also stated that while there were improvements, among the areas that would need to be tweaked would be the short game of the players. He noted that the greens were fast and running well and this would link directly to persons having to put in some extra work on their short game as the greens were expected to maintain their level of challenge.
“For the condition of the course, the LGC is right now continuing … maintenance on the drainage and ensuring we have good drainage in the event we have any intermittent rains, so it doesn’t affect the games and the course as well,” Persaud shared.
He also went on to state that minor works would also be done on the rough so as to get the course in tip-top shape as the Guyana Open looms.
