Hadfield St man slapped with illegal gun charges

A 25-year-old labourer, who was taken into custody for questioning into connection with a fatal Rio Nightclub shooting, was on Wednesday charged for illegal possession of a firearm.
Jermaine Marius, of Lot 70 Hadfield Street, Georgetown, was remanded to prison for illegal possession of two firearms when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, which alleged that on September 30, 2016, he had in his possession a .32 Taurus Pistol as well as a .38 Special revolver, while not being a firearm licence holder. The case will continue on October 26, 2016.
On September 26, Ryan Sergeant, of North Ruimveldt, died of gunshot wounds, following a shooting incident in front of the Nightclub in Queenstown, about 02:30h.
A Police report had stated that CCTV footage was obtained from the Nightclub and investigators were informed of the possible suspects who were involved in an altercation, prior to rounds being discharged.
Acting on information, the Police arrested Marius and he was found to be in possession of the guns.
