A Surinamese hairdresser has been taken into custody by the Guyana Police Force after she was found with a quantity of cocaine and ecstasy pills stuffed in her brassiere on Saturday morning.
The discovery was made at about 08:30h, shortly after the woman arrived in Guyana at the Backtrack Route at the Number 78 Foreshore, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to Public Relations Officer of the Police Force, Jairam Ramlakhan, the 27-year-old, who is said to be a hairdresser of Charlesburg, Paramaribo, Suriname, arrived in Guyana via the backtrack route and when a routine search was conducted by officers manning the port, the prohibited substances were found stashed in her undergarment.
Upon further examination, it was revealed that the suspect was in possession of 247 grams of cocaine and 100 grams of ecstasy (192 pills). The Surinamese was taken into custody and is being processed for court.
