Handyman in Aubrey Barker hit and run identified

The male pedestrian, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, in the wee hours of Saturday, has been identified as 56-year-old Oswald Straker of Lot 2191 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Jairam Ramlakhan shared with Guyana Times on Tuesday that the deceased was identified on Monday by his brother, Colette Straker, and daughter, Shondell Straker.
This newspaper had previously reported that just before 04:00h on Saturday, persons in the area heard a loud crash and upon inspection, saw the motionless body of the man lying on the roadway as a 212 motor car sped away from the scene.
When investigators arrived at the scene, the victim was unconscious and bore multiple external injuries. He subsequently died.
Persons in the area had referred to the now dead man only as “Dennis” and “Presy” since he was known as a handyman in the South Ruimveldt community.
The body remains at Lyken Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the police are on the hunt for the driver of the vehicle that struck the man. CCTV footage from security cameras in the area is being reviewed.
