Handyman remanded for armed robbery

Handyman Cheddie Bacchus of Norton Street Lodge, who had been granted bail on four armed robbery charges, found himself facing an additional armed-robbery charge when he appeared on Friday before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The 31-year-old pleaded not guilty to this new charge, which alleges that on August 8 last, at Stabroek, Georgetown, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Ronald Jones of a cell phone valued at $57,000.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels opposed bail being granted to Bacchus on ground that he has four matters of a similar nature pending before the court. The prosecutor said Bacchus was only recently released on bail when he allegedly committed this new offence.
Bacchus has thus been remanded to prison until September 23.
A few weeks ago, Bacchus had appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty to answer four robbery charges.
He was remanded to prison on his first court appearance, but was later granted bail for those offences.
