Harpy Eagles ready for new challenge – Captain Imlach

Captain Tevin Imlach says inclusive leadership and a strong team culture will be key as Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) begin their defence of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Four-Day Championship title this month.
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) on Sunday announced the squad for the opening round of the 2026 championship, with Guyana set to face the Windward Islands Volcanoes from April 12–15 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
Imlach, who has served as Captain for the past two years, said his leadership style has evolved into one that encourages shared responsibility and open dialogue within the team.

“I’ve learnt a lot about myself in those two years and my style of leadership, which is a lot more inclusive than most. I am someone that welcomes ideas,” Imlach said. “I believe that more than one person is needed to lead a team. You need a group of leaders. Everyone should be a leader within themselves.”
The wicketkeeper-batsman emphasised the value of diverse perspectives in decision-making, noting that a broader pool of ideas places the team in a stronger position to make sound choices on and off the field.
“Having more options is always better than having a few. That’s generally my style of leadership and how I plan on moving forward,” he added.
Guyana enter the tournament as defending champions and one of the most consistent sides in regional cricket over the past decade. According to Imlach, that success has been built on a clear template and a potent bowling attack.
“Over the last decade, Guyana’s Four-Day team has been the best team in regional cricket. We’ve always had the best bowling line-up, and we’ve managed to bowl out teams more often than not. That’s our strength,” he said.
However, he was quick to point out that the team’s batting unit has also stepped up in recent seasons, with new players making immediate contributions.
“You need bowlers to get teams out, but you also need batters to score runs and do it consistently. Even with new players coming in, they’ve been able to hit the ground running. They’re clear on their approach and they execute well,” Imlach noted.
Despite Guyana’s status as defending champions, Imlach insists there is no added pressure on the squad.
“The aim is always to win cricket games. We try not to look too far ahead or put pressure on ourselves. It’s a new tournament, and we’ll treat it as such. We focus on the first game and adjust as necessary after that,” he said. “There’s no pressure attached to us in terms of winning. We just try to win every game that we play.”
The Harpy Eagles will be led by Imlach, with Matthew Nandu serving as Vice Captain. The squad also includes Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Raymond Perez, Kevlon Anderson, Kemol Savoury, Keemo Paul, Gudakesh Motie, Veerasammy Permaul, Richie Looknauth, Nial Smith, Isai Thorne and Zeynul Ramsammy.
Head Coach Ryan Hercules will oversee the campaign.
Named as reserves are Shamar Joseph, Junior Sinclair, Sylus Tyndall, Jonathan Van Lange, Thaddeus Lovell, Antony Adams and Mavendra Dindyal.
With a balanced squad blending experience and emerging talent, Guyana will be aiming to extend their dominance in regional cricket when the first ball is bowled in Antigua later this month.
