A man who allegedly attacked a Police Officer on Monday evening at Fair Field Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was shot. 
Shot is Bertrand Robertson, 46, of Rebeccas Rust High Dam, Mahaicony ECD.
Reports are at about 23:00h, Assistant Superintendent Ravin Dass was returning to Georgetown from Berbice and due to tiredness, stopped at Fair Field to take a nap.
While sleeping, he reportedly heard a knocking on his window and as such, lowered the window. As he did, the suspect enquired about his presence there and he explained but the man removed the key from the ignition of his car.
As the Police rank attempted to retrieve his car keys from the man, he was attacked with a hatchet. In retaliation; he whipped out his service revolver and discharged two rounds, hitting his attacker in the left ankle. The injured man was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
The Police rank is assisting with the investigation. His weapon, along with two spent shells, as well as the hatchet that were recovered at the scene was lodged.
