Speaking of their training sessions thus far, Batting Coach Jimmy Adams praised the pristine conditions that Pakistan has so far offered.
“Well, firstly the conditions are really excellent for cricket. The weather here is really good, it’s not too cold, it’s not too hot, the facilities that they’ve given us here have been excellent. So, the guys have had everything at their disposal, good surfaces, enough practice bowlers and they’ve been putting in the time and the intensity has been really good,” Adams shared with CWI Media.
The Coach opined, “At the end of the day, I think they’ve gotten exactly what they would’ve wanted and its now for us to make use of the 3- day practice game, going into the first Test match.”
Tight- lipped on the specifics of what he will be looking to work on with his team, Adams stressed on ‘perfecting basics’ as a means of producing better performances.
Adams cautiously divulged, “All of the players will be working individual. This is not the time or the place to get into what the guys are doing. In terms of a team focus, it’s more jut making sure that we have the basics covered.”
“The plan generally is to make sure we can do basics for longer than any team that we play against and therefore, they’re making sure that after a long flight and couple days of rest, that they’re really focused on getting the basics put to bed and be ready to execute those basics come tomorrow [today],” he went on to share on the topic.
Though it is only a warm up match, Adams is keen on not underplaying the importance of the upcoming three- day outing.
Adams related, “I wouldn’t use the word ‘just’. It’s a very important part of the build- up. It will give us middle time against quality opposition and quality time in the middle is what we need going into that first Test match. So, hopefully we make use of the team that we’re playing against and the surface that they’ve prepared here us.”
Following the warm- up game’s conclusion on January 12; the first Test between West indies and Pakistan will run from January 17 to 21 while the second Test will be played from January 25 to 29.
The West Indies Test team reads: Captain Kraigg Brathwaite, Vice- Captain Joshua DaSilva, Alick Athanaze, Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Tevin Imlach, Amir Jangoo, Mikyle Louis, Gudakesh Motie, Anderson Phillip, Kemar Roach, Kevin Sinclair, Jayden Seales and Jomel Warrican.
