Health Ministry records 80 new COVID-19 cases

…955 active infections being monitored

Total infections of COVID-19 in Guyana have reached 66,332, after another 80 new cases were reported on Friday.
There are still 1268 confirmed deaths, with five persons in the Intensive Care Unit. From the latest dashboard, 33 persons are in institutional isolation, 914 in home isolation and four in institutional quarantine.
Additionally, a total of 67,112 persons have recovered. However, a whopping 955 active infections are still being monitored across the country. Meanwhile, 672,899, tests have been processed to date.
An analysis shows one new case in Region One (Barima-Waini), five in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), two in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 46 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), six in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), 18 in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), one in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and one in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
There were no new reported cases in Regions Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
A dispersion of active cases shows 17 in Region One, 23 in Region Two, 70 in Region Three, 489 in Region Four, 42 in Region Five, 94 in Region Six, 25 in Region Seven, 146 in Region Nine and 49 in Region 10.
Vaccination figures show that so far, 444,720 or 86.7 per cent of adults have taken a first dose, while some 344,441 or 67.1 per cent of persons 18 years and over are fully vaccinated.
For adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17, 35,303 first doses or 48.3 per cent and 25,873 or 35.4 per cent second doses have been administered.
Vaccination for children in the five to 11 category shows 5677 first doses or 5 per cent. Only 1070 or one per cent have returned for their second shot. In addition, over 70,000 persons have returned for their booster shots thus far.
According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recent figures, some 565,207,160 confirmed cases were reported globally along with 6,373,739 deaths.
In the Region of the Americas, that is, Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 168,183,683 while the death toll in the region has gone up to 2,779,572.
