Heart of Oak ‘Teach Them Young’ five-week football camp wraps up
By Andrew Carmichael
More than eighty youths have been exposed to the basics of football while also learning essential life skills in the Heart of Oak ‘Teach Them Young’ five-week football camp which ends today.
During the five weeks of instructional activity, participants are being exposed to lectures on life skills, the laws of football and the
importance of exercise.
Organiser and facilitator Neil Humphrey said the main focus of the camp was discipline. “In any sport that one wants to get involved in there is a need for discipline. Even in the classroom and when they go to work, they will have to be disciplined if they are to be successful,” Humphrey noted.
Heart of Oak Football Club’s annual “Teach Them Young” football camp was opened to boys and girls between six and 12-years of age. Topics that were covered included diet, etiquette and basic skills needed in the classroom.
Over the years the camp has been the starting ground for scores of footballers, who went on to represent Berbice and Guyana. The camp was held at the All Saints Ground on Princess Elizabeth Road and at the Prisons Officers Club, New Amsterdam.
