Heated contests highlight opening day action

The 5th form Physical Education Students of Marian Academy on Friday commenced their two-day Inter-School Basketball competition with the hosts along with President’s College and Plaisance High, recording wins.

As part of their CXC 2018 Physical Education curriculum, the tourney will be used by the students as part of their School Based Assignments (SBA). Each encounter will be played 15 minutes per half with the teams switching court ends at the interval.
The opening match played between the Girls of Marian Academy and President’s College; saw the latter emerging winners after blowing away their opponents 17-7. Lydia Roberts starred with seven points, 3 rebounds and 2 turn-overs while Saffiya Green chipped in with 5 points for the winners.
Hosts Marian Academy won their first match when their boys’ team hammered St Roses High 26-16 in the second match of the day. Shemar Atwell’s 10 points highlighted the encounter while Akili Haynes and Josiah Daniels chipped in with 4 points each.
The final battle of the day saw a fired up Plaisance team running hard over the President’s College boys after some tag-team work between Andrew Johnson and Nigel Bowen who destroyed the court to end with 9 points apiece while Shemar Payne ended with 6 useful points.
Plaisance were all over their opponents from the get-go with Bowen and Payne working well in tandem to execute some amazing passes to which they completed with excellent scoring shots to keep their opponents at bay throughout the match. In the end it was Plaisance High who walked away the victors 27-11.
The action continues on Saturday with the semi-finals and finals which get underway from 15:00h at the Marian Academy School court.
